Signs It’s Time to Paint

Signs It’s Time to Paint

How do you know when it is time to paint? There are a number of things to consider before you do, and we will lay out the list so you can decide if now is the time.

First, before continuing, you have to consider whether you’ll be that DIY-er who uses their precious time to hash out paint, which can be time consuming and confusing. Or hire a professional painter, like League Painting, who will ease your worry so you won’t have to deal with the physical and mental exhaustion of a project; professional painters can bear that for your, while you sit back and relax.

While consider whether to paint your home and hire a painter, you have to consider what guests first impressions are of your home and will new paint raise your home value. Other than peeling paint, chips, and faded and worn walls, there are other signs to consider before you paint.

1)Flaking, Bubbling, and Cracking Paint

These can be signs that the home is old, paint was poorly applied, or cause for serious problems like dry rot, wet rot, or mold caused by failed weatherproofing. Often direct sunlight, harsh weather patterns such as extreme heat, humidity, winter weather, and those spring storms can cause these types of problems.

2)Hardened Caulk

It’s not unknown that caulk wears down with usual wear and tear as time goes on. If caulk is hard or not as present as it once was (sunk down between the lines), then it is probably time to call an expert to re-caulk and check for damage.

3)Fading Paint

Sun bleaching and water intrusion are the two leading causes to fading paint in your home. If you have dark hues, then they are more susceptible to bleaching than paler tones. But if you notice water drips, or dark spots on your walls and ceilings, you may have a water leak. If you think you do then call an expert to prevent further damage

4)Patching Stucco

Patch stucco and repaint the whole house if you want paint to evenly match the walls.

5)Paint Color Morphs

Over time the paint on your walls may not look like the same color when you first painted it. This can happen because of UV rays changing the chemicals inside the paint. Depending on color, it may not take long for the color to morph! To prevent unwarranted shades and bleaching, have your painter paint with UV protected exterior grade paint.

6)Boosting Curb Appeal

Let’s face it, we all want our single largest investment to look appealing on the outside don’t we? It’s no secret that a fresh coat of paint and trim on the exterior of your home will boost home value tremendously, not to mention the home will be the talk of the neighborhood. If the outside looks dull and faded, then it is time for an update

7)For A Newer Home

A newer home is generally painted with one coat of primer on wood; that is most of the time insufficient in preventing swelling and shrinkage. Within about five years you would want to paint your home to ensure that your walls are paint protected before much damage occurs

8)Before Paint Chips And Peels

Get ahead before you see the the paint chips and peels to minimize the scraping and work down the road. Not only to save you the work ahead of time, but a house typically needs to be refreshed every so often, which will cost you less in prep work now than if you waited to paint.

Take a walk in and around your home, check the walls and trim to see if any of these telltale signs are present on your property. If yes, then consider the above signs and solutions to cure your home and renew its spirit for a fresh new feel.
